Nearly 8,000 homes a year targeted in SW construction drive

A target of nearly 8,000 new homes a year has been set as part of plans to drive construction in the South West.

The new report, by the Mayoral Combined Authority for the West of England, has set out plans to drive construction throughout the region.

Housing plays a key part in this regeneration campaign, with a target being set of delivering 7,750 new homes a year.

A new multi-year investment plan has been published alongside this plan with the Authority seeking to work closer with the national government.

This agreement is based on increasing the availability and affordability of homes in the West of England.

“We have clear ambitions for the future of the West of England — we will be relentless in pursuing the investment, support and partnership required from Government and national agencies to deliver for our region,” read the report.

“To unlock the growth potential of the region, we have agreed on a set of joint priorities with the government.

“We will take action across a range of areas to deliver a brighter future for the West of England.”

Glenigan, commenting on the report, has highlighted several major housing developments that are already in progress in the region.

In addition to Bristol’s Temple Quarter regeneration, there is the £350m Temple Island development which will deliver around 520 homes and Dandara Living’s plans for 435 BTR homes at its Clarence Road Development.
